Snow removal safety tips

Snow Shoveling & Snow Blower Safety Tips
Pace yourself and take breaks. Cold weather and heavy snow can strain your heart and muscles. Stop
if you feel winded or lightheaded.
Lift smart, not heavy. Use small shovel loads, bend at the knees, keep your back straight, and avoid
twisting when throwing snow.
Dress for traction and visibility. Wear boots with good grip and bright or reflective clothing so drivers
and plow operators can see you.
Snow blower safety rule: hands never in the chute. Turn the machine off completely and use a tool to
clear jams.
Watch for ice, exhaustion, and cold stress. Hidden ice causes falls and cold sneaks up fast. Warm up
indoors and know when to stop.
